I know this because I lost a tonne of muscle once, from doing excessive amounts of HIIT on an empty stomach in the morning. And then, to compensate for this I spent an amazing amount of time trying to eat more calories. For many years I tried to eat more, more and more. I would eat a meal every couple of hours, eating every 5 minutes. I ate like I was about to go to the hospital. Like I was about to lose my life! But it was only temporary. And not just temporary, I started eating more every day. My body lost weight without me having worked at it or thinking about it at all. Here is what I had to do: If I wanted to eat a small snack or a whole bag of chips every 30 minutes, I had to eat those for 10 or 15 minutes (and then stop). If I wanted to eat two slices of bread for lunch, I had to eat at least two. Then, I had lunch. I was starving so that was what that food was for. But no amount of exercise was going to make up for the hunger. Then I went to bed. If I went to bed, I went to sleep. And by morning I was tired, so I went back out until I was ready to go. There were some good mornings, like a day I went to the gym, but most of the time I didn't want to go to workout, because I didn't want to burn calories, so I just ate. This got to a point where my weight lost and then I wasn't feeling good and I wanted to go home and do something. So when I was at work, I'd go home and get my meal ready, and eat it, and then go to the gym. And while going to the gym was good, I also got to work, which is when it got bad. My body would start telling me that I was fat at work, and I never had an empty stomach, so it started telling me that I was fat. So I stopped going to work. Now I work 4 days each week and I always have my meal ready just before I start, and I eat it before I start, at the start of my workout, like I have been taught.
